Another year has come and gone, and your organization is readily preparing for the new year. Many organizations are deciding on what their new year’s resolution will be, whether it’s increasing marketing efforts or hiring new staff to execute new plans and projects. A common new year’s resolution, and perhaps one of the most important differences businesses can make starting a new year, is the goal of going green. Going green should be a top priority for all businesses for several reasons:
- It saves money in the long term.
- Consumers recognize green companies.
- Going green stimulates innovation.
- It helps the environment.
Embracing more environmentally-friendly practices within your organization is not as hard as you think. In fact, making small changes, like maintenance initiatives and choice of commercial flooring within your organization, can make all the difference in your efforts to go green.
Yes, renewable energy and recycling initiatives are major components of green solutions, but keeping your flooring clean and odor-free is also an imperative component that many overlook. As we tend to spend a lot of time inside, indoor air becomes more polluted than the air outside, contributing to air quality issues and health risks. Making it a priority to take extra strides towards leveraging the maintenance efforts of your flooring helps the environment in so many ways.
By ensuring your flooring is exceptionally maintained at all times, your organization is contributing to the decrease in bacteria, increase in air quality, decrease in health risks, and increase in the sustainability of resources. Not to mention, you are elongating the life of your flooring and saving time, money and the environment day by day!
Alternative Installation methods
One way we have found to decrease the amount of adhesives we use are the use of alternate installation methods. One product is using an adhesive double stick application for the installation of carpet tiles. Two examples of this would be the LOC DOTS from Shaw or TAC TILES Interface Flooring. We have successfully installed projects using these products and avoided using adhesives.
Adopting eco-friendly products within your organization is a major building block to the path of sustainability and can in fact, contribute to your facility becoming more marketable and gaining a competitive advantage. By choosing an eco-friendly flooring option, your company is immediately displaying care for the environment and its inhabitants as soon as your sources of revenue come walking through the door. Many eco-friendly flooring choices exist today and are becoming increasingly popular, including:
Companies who actively incorporate green changes within their facility have seen major positive impacts. Not only do they contribute to the health of the environment, but they are also able to express their care for the earth, and thus, customers respond positively. This not only increases the sustainability of their commercial flooring, but also the sustainability of their company as a whole and its competitive edge.
